'Explore the Countryside'
The Great Western Greenway – Ireland’s first greenway – is a walking and cycling trail in County Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Running 44km around the Eastern and Northern stretches of Clew Bay in Co Mayo. It begins in the popular seaside town of Westport and traverses
through the quaint towns and villages of Newport and Mulranny before coming to a gentle finish at Achill Sound. Offering mild gradients courtesy of its initial beginning as a railway line and with magnificent landscape backdrops such as Clew Bay,Clare Island, the mythical holy mountain Croagh Patrick and the Nephin Beg Mountains which forms Part of Wild Nephin National Park.
You will travel through bogs, woodlands and active farmland, while spotting wildlife and flora, the Greenway has something unique for each and every visitor. Your Guided Tour will be from Croagh Patrick, our infamous peak on the Wild Atantlic Way, to Westport Town, just a short 6km cycle.
We have E-bikes or hybrid bikes and the kids trailer bikes and accessories. This is the perfect afternoon retreat for our families.
'Step back in time'
The remarkable neolithic site at Céide Fields in County Mayo, Ireland,
contains the oldest known stone-walled fields in the world – dating
back nearly 6,000 years.
Céide Fields overlooks the mighty Atlantic Ocean which gently
laps (or vigorously pounds …. depending on the weather!) up against
the cliffs below. The landscape itself has been forged from the
dramatic upheaval and movement of the earths crust over
millions of years.
The soil at Céide Fields has been constantly subjected to the conflicts
of the weather. The warm Gulf Stream comes up past the American
continent between Ireland and Iceland. In the opposite direction,
cold deep waters flow south from the icey Arctic Ocean. The
combination of all these factors has resulted in the wild beauty and
uniqueness of this region in County Mayo, Ireland.
We at Guided Tours will take your family on an educational
adventure and you will even build a stone wall of your own. Lots of
surprises in store.
